Tara Trafzer has been dancing since she was two years old. She has training from numerous top professionals in styles including: ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hula, hip-hop, contemporary, the five latin dances (cha-cha, rumba, samba, paso doble, and jive), some ballroom dances (waltz and tango), salsa, and of course, west coast swing. Most of her training comes from the Schwimmer family (Buddy, Laurie, Lacey, and Benji Schwimmer.) Tara has over 30 years of dance training with competition and performance experience. She has choreographed numerous west coast swing, jazz, and contemporary routines throughout her career and is hired nationally and internationally to judge and teach various dance styles. Tara has also won the NASDE circuit twice from her accomplishments in champion’s jack and jill, strictly swing, and the classic division.
Tara furthered her scholastic education by attending the University of California Berkeley. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in history focusing on British Fascism and the life of Sir Oswald Mosley, the leader of the Fascist movement in Britain in the pre-war period. She uses quirky history facts she has learned through the years while she emcees for west cost swing events nationally and internationally. Over the last eight years, Tara has gained more and more recognition for her emceeing and is one of the only female emcees currently on the west coast swing circuit.
